Showcase at Bologna Children's Bookfair 2016

La délirante odyssée d'Emma et Jules, children's book in collaboration with Benjamin Grandclément of Les Apprentis Rêveurs

Brianfitzer met with Benjamin Grandclément at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2015. Benjamin liked my style of illustration and suggested he would keep me in mind for a project. Five months later I heard from him and we set to work together on his idea for a Carousel Book with 8 illustrations. When the book is tied open using the ribbons it sits on the table like a carousel. “It will be readable as a book, and securing it with ribbons, you can use it as a playground”. The book includes two easily assembled paper toys of submarines to play with within the environment of the open book. The book also includes work-sheets of easy games for kids.

I am winner of the International Silent Book Contest 2014. Illustrations for The American Lawyer Magazine based on a series of short stories

Overview:

Brian was commissioned to produce illustrations for an article covering financial results for competitive law firms of diverse practice specialties, size, and geographic location.

The image of bathers is based on a series of short stories about selected firms on the “Second Hundred” list of the nation’s 200 highest grossing law firms. It was considered noteworthy on observation of the year’s financial results for each of these firms that profits and gross revenue fluctuated a lot. In some cases a firm's specialty was in a practice area that had experienced a hard time, provoking some firms to cut costs dramatically.

Illustrations for Experience Life Magazine Healthy Eating Supplement.

I worked with Lydia Anderson at Snowdog Design on the Illustrations for Life Experience Magazine “Take Back Your Taste Buds” by Julie Kendrick. Lydia already had some ideas and that helped to speed up the process. Everything was to look clear and uncomplicated. The sketches evolved over a couple of days and the lion tamer became a leek. The soft drinks bottle and potato chips & container were replaced with a burger, potato fries and a soft drink can. The healthy food v the processed food was now targeted and the sketch was ready for the final artwork. All sketches were approved and the finished art was completed in Illustrator. Illustrations for Packaging for a Range of Potato Chips

Working with Jennifer Ireland, Senior Creative of ST. JOSEPH COMMUNICATIONS I produced a series of full colour illustrations for the Irristibles, Old-Fashioned Potato Chips Packaging for Canadian Food Chain's Metro foods. The illustrations place an emphasis on texture and colour to evoke the exciting aromas and flavours of the range.

Working with Tom Meenaghan & Associates I produced two full colour illustrations for the Xpresso Café identity in the Waterford Omniplex Cinema. The illustrations provide a backdrop to the café logo and the striking copy ‘Some like it hot’. A different colour palette is used for each piece. At first we thought of using one or two images on each background but as the project went on I experimented with a limited colour and opacity and arrived at the final artwork. They are busy and engaging visual with lots to discover as the eye moves across the colour & shapes.

An Irish Language book aimed at 10-14 year olds.

"This is thoroughly enjoyable book which will give the young reader not only an insight into Haiku but which may also inspire a more general interest in both the interpretation and writing of poetry. It is full of interesting little nuggets of information about nature, culture andhistory which are beautifully interwoven with the poems. Above all, the reader is inspired to take interest in the world around him and to open his eyes to its many little wonders. The book is aimed at 10-14 year olds and is written in very rich, yet simple Irish."
by Claire Marie Dunne From Inis Magazine

The three illustrations below represent my submissions for the Folio Society’s Illustration competition 2015.

The Treasure of Abbot Thomas

"Startled as I was, I looked round after him and saw him stand for a minute at the top and then walk away a few yards. ‘Then I heard him call softly, ”All right sir,” and went on pulling out the great bag, in complete darkness."

The Upper Berth

"I lay quite still in the dark trying to go to sleep, but I soon found that impossible. It had been some satisfaction to be angry with the steward, and the diversion had banished that unpleasant sensation I had at first experienced when I thought of the drowned man who had been my chum;"

A Tale of an empty House

"And then with a pang of disappointment I saw the firstevidence of the intrusion of a man into this paradise of solitude, for on astony spit of ground that ran like some great rib into the amphibious meadows, there stood a small square house built of brick, with a tall flagstaff set up in front of it."
